Curriculum and lesson planning booklet for young reader series.

Astro the Monster is a series of early reader books, written by Claude Jones and illustrated by Laura Watson. Room 228 was tasked with developing an accompanying classroom curriculum, and commissioned me as lead designer.

Initially, the requested deliverable was three separate packets, one for each book in the series. However, as the content evolved, the vision expanded. Claude wanted a comprehensive educational guide, dubbed The Galactic Educator’s Guide, which would unify the existing materials, incorporate a fourth book, and include new lesson plans and front matter.

I collaborated closely with Claude and the educators at Room 228 to advise on merging the packets into a cohesive and easy to navigate guide, designing the new lesson plans and worksheets, and revising many of the graphics to align with his new website, which went live partway through the process. Additionally, I ensured all this new and revised content was correctly formatted as a professional booklet for Amazon KDP.

The result was a unified and expanded curriculum of 72 illustrated pages of visually stunning and highly functional educational resource. It was also accompanied by a promotional brochure. Claude Jones’s feedback was overwhelmingly positive. He remarked, “Working with Tim has been exceptional. He brought unparalleled design expertise and a collaborative spirit that elevated the entire creative process. Tim seamlessly translated my vision into a stunning and user-friendly guide, and I wholeheartedly recommend him to anyone seeking technical brilliance and a client-focused approach on every project.”

This project was a testament to the power of collaboration, creativity, and meticulous design, resulting in a resource that will enhance the educational experience of countless young readers.
